PBAT Urged To Assent Bill To Exit Retired Police Officers From Contributory Pension Scheme
The Association of Retired Police Officers under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), Katsina State Chapter, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to assent to the bill already passed by the Senate exempting them from the scheme to alleviate their present predicament.
Shehu Suleiman ASP (rtd) and spokesman of association stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Katsina on Saturday.
According to the statement, the association under the leadership of the state branch chairman, Alhaji Kabir Bawa (DSP rtd) stated that the call has become necessary as the delay in assenting the bill has continued to exacerbate the hardship being faced by the retired police officers under the scheme...TAP TO CONTINUE FULL READING.
They called on the President to exit them from the Contributory Pension Scheme CPS, and align them with their counterparts like the military, DSS, and other sister security agencies that have already been exited from the scheme.
To this end, they added that preparations are in top gear to participate in a peaceful protest tagged “Do or Die” to appeal to the President to assent the bill slated for 20th April 2026 in Abuja.
“All we are requesting from the President is to assent to the already passed bill by the Senate and align us with other sister security agencies by exempting us from the CPS”.
Similarly, the association condemned the recent position of PENCOM which allows serving police officers to withdraw 25 percent of their contributions, pointing out that it would undermine the efforts being made to exit the scheme.
To avert this worrisome position, the association has resolved to embark on an enlightenment campaign to educate serving officers on its implications.
“We appeal to all serving police officers not to fall for such cheap traps by collecting such money meant to weaken the ongoing efforts”, the association advised, urging them to “remain united and committed in the collective pursuit of our freedom from the scheme”.

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Increases ATM Card Issuance Fee to N1,500, Scraps Maintenance Charge
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has increased the fee for the issuance or replacement of debit and credit cards from N1,000 to N1,500, effective from May 1.
The apex bank also announced that no maintenance fee will be charged on naira-denominated debit or credit cards, while virtual cards will remain free.
