BREAKING NEWS: BREAKING NEWS: Despite Ongoing Fraud Trial, Former Minister Abubakar Malami secures ADC governorship ticket in Kebbi

Abubakar Malami, former minister of justice and attorney‑general of the federation, has emerged as the 2027 governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State.

Aminu Bande (retired military officer) was affirmed as senatorial candidate for Kebbi central, Ibrahim Mera for Kebbi north, and Garba Danjuma for Kebbi south. Malami is standing trial on criminal charges filed by the EFCC and DSS, and a court ordered the interim forfeiture of 57 properties linked to him and his sons.

Key Points:

Malami’s candidacy proceeds despite pending corruption charges and asset forfeiture orders.
The ADC has fielded a full slate of candidates in Kebbi, signalling serious opposition to the APC.
His campaign promises of “purposeful leadership, justice, and security” may be contradicted by his legal troubles.
Voters may question whether a former AGF facing fraud allegations can credibly fight insecurity and corruption.
The interim forfeiture of 57 properties could become a major campaign issue for opponents.

Watch whether the EFCC or DSS intensifies prosecution as the 2027 election approaches, and how Kebbi voters respond to a candidate with pending criminal charges.
