US President Donald Trump has called on FIFA to bring the men’s World Cup back to the United States, saying the next edition hosted by the country should not be shared with Canada and Mexico.
Speaking at a FIFA World Cup reception at Trump Tower in New York ahead of Sunday’s final, Trump told FIFA President Gianni Infantino: “You should choose the United States of America again.
This time we will leave Canada and Mexico out.” He suggested FIFA award the next tournament to another host before returning it to the US. The 2026 World Cup is currently co-hosted by the US, Canada and Mexico. The next open bidding process is for the 2038 edition.
