2 Nigerians, Accomplice Jailed in UK Over £5 Million Cryptocurrency Fraud

Two Nigerian nationals and a third accomplice have been sentenced to a combined 28 years and nine months in prison after orchestrating a sophisticated cryptocurrency fraud that defrauded victims of nearly £5 million.​

Anthony Ikenwe, 29, Kevin Nwamma, 25, and Hamza Bashir, 23, were sentenced at Southwark Crown Court for conspiracy to commit fraud and money laundering. The trio posed as police officers, contacting victims and falsely claiming their cryptocurrency accounts had been compromised.

They obtained personal information from the dark web and created fake websites mimicking legitimate platforms. Detectives recovered evidence including a video of a suspect receiving real-time instructions via Snapchat. At least eight victims lost nearly £5 million.
