Operatives of the Nigerian Army have thwarted a massive attack launched by over 300 suspected Boko Haram terrorists on communities in the Chibok area of Borno State.
According to a press statement made available by the Nigerian Army late Saturday, the attackers invaded the communities around 02:50 a.m, and were met by superior firepower by troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade.
The statement reads, “Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully thwarted a planned midnight attack on Chibok communities in Borno State. The attack, launched by over 300 terrorists from multiple fronts, began at about 0250 hours (2:50 a.m.) today and was decisively defeated through swift intelligence, tactical manoeuvre and superior firepower by troops of 28 Task Force Brigade.
“The troops, who were on alert, detected early enemy movement, enabling them to quickly assume battle positions and engage the terrorists from multiple fronts. The fierce firefight lasted for over two hours, during which the gallant soldiers held their ground firmly and prevented the terrorists from breaching the security of the adjoining towns.”
The statement added, “The terrorists, on observing the break of day, started a disorderly withdrawal towards the Azir axis into the Sambisa Forest, attempting to cross the Main Supply Route Damboa–Biu. In response, 25 Brigade was tasked to occupy pre-designated ambush positions ahead of Azir Bridge to cut off and neutralize the fleeing terrorists, with guidance provided by a Nigerian Army Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.
“The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI deployed a Super Tucano aircraft and as the advancing interdiction forces closed in, the terrorists dispersed. Troops subsequently disrupted their withdrawal. No personnel or equipment was lost, underscoring the high level of combat readiness, professionalism and resilience displayed by the forces involved.”
“While exploitation operations in and around Chibok remain ongoing, the Nigerian Army assures the public that concerted efforts are being intensified to track down escaping elements and deny them freedom of movement. The footage of the mass withdrawal of terrorists after the failed attack has been obtained and is being analyzed for further operational action.
“The Nigerian Army reaffirms its relentless commitment to defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensuring the safety of all citizens,” the statement concluded.
The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointment of 34 career and 30 non career ambassadors.....TAP TO CONTINUE READING

The confirmation came after the committee, chaired by Senator Sani Bello, presented its report, after which the recommendations were adopted.
However, during the session, Senator Sahabi Yau raised an objection, drawing attention to the absence of any nominee from Zamfara State on the list.
He urged that the President be notified of the omission.
In response, the Senate President acknowledged the concern, explaining that the current list was not exhaustive.
He assured lawmakers that he would raise the matter with the President. He further affirms that additional ambassadorial nominations are expected and that Zamfara State would not be excluded.
Among the career ambassadors are Arewa Esther (Oyo State); Adeola-Ibrahim Mopelola (Ogun); Ramat Omonbolale (Lagos); Monica Okechukwu Enebechi (Anambra); Adams Jane Basset (Cross River); Mohammed Lele (Bauchi); Muhammad Dahiru (Kaduna).
Those on the list of non- career include Ajimobi Florence (Oyo); Sulola Akande (Oyo); Uguwanyi Ifeanyi (Enugu); Ita Enang (Akwa Ibom); Femi Fani-Kayode (Osun); Jerry Manwe (Taraba); Reno Omokri (Delta); Ibas Ibok-Ette (Cross River); Abdulrahman Dambazzau (Kano); and Abas Braimah (Edo).
The Senate earlier confirmed three other non-career ambassadors, bringing to the total number of confirmed nominees to 67.

Information available to The Chronicle from a deep throat source at the Police Headquarters reveals that the men in black uniform got the hint that a soldier, Warrant Officer (WOII) Enock Appiah, based in Kasoa, was looking for buyers of assault rifles.

The intelligence closed in on the said WO Appiah who is married to three wives at his uncompleted building hideout within the Nurses Quarters, Domeabra-Kasoa.
The SOU personnel tactically positioned selves only for WO Appiah to fall. A search conducted on him revealed two pistols, namely Beretta and Tarius, and three rounds of AK47 assault rifle ammunitions.
Also found on him are various military uniforms and a fake military identity card bearing the name WO Enock Appiah.
According to the source, police investigation is ongoing to ascertain how he procured the uniforms and weapons.
