The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Samaila Ibrahim Kaigama, President of the Borno State Youths Association (BOSYA), in Abuja on Wednesday. The arrest reportedly came shortly after he appeared on Channels Television, where he made allegations regarding ransom payments allegedly made to Boko Haram terrorists.
Confirming the development, Omoyele Sowore (AAC presidential candidate and human rights activist) said a lawyer from Deji Adeyanju’s law firm was sent to see Kaigama in detention but was denied access to both the detainee and the DSS premises after waiting over an hour.
Sowore described the arrest as an attempt to silence Kaigama and criticized the DSS’s handling of the matter, saying security agencies are operating without regard for citizens’ rights.
No official statement has been issued by the DSS confirming the reason for the arrest or responding to the access-denial claims.
