The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has reaffirmed that there is no going back on the ban on small-volume alcoholic drinks in the country.
NAFDAC Zonal Director for the South-east, Festus Ukadike, said the crackdown has already begun targeting manufacturers and distributors, with arrests and seizures made in Enugu, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, and Anambra states.
He said the health of children was a deciding factor, adding that public health considerations outweigh commercial interests. He advised that, in 12 months, Nigeria should expect a standard regulatory landscape with no alcohol in packaging under 200ml.
