Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has rejected former Ogun Governor Olusegun Osoba’s account of the 2003 elections, accusing his former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of sponsoring an impeachment plot against him and secretly working to stop his re-election.
In a lengthy statement, Obasanjo described Osoba’s article as “inaccurate, incomplete and far-fetched.” He alleged that Atiku invited then-Speaker Ghali Na’Abba to his office and gave him N5 million to commence impeachment proceedings.
Obasanjo also claimed Atiku made a two-track approach: one to go with Alex Ekwueme and another to have the six AD governors yield the field to him in 2007. He defended the 2003 South-West election results as reflecting the mood of the electorate.
