The opposition’s plan to unite behind a single presidential candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election is losing momentum, as key factions and parties adopt different positions on the proposed arrangement.
While the Turaki-led PDP faction keeps the possibility open, the Wike-backed PDP faction has ruled out any alliance. Atiku’s camp affirmed that opposition parties have produced their candidates but remain committed to working together.
The NDC, PRP, Labour Party, Accord and a faction of the ADC have distanced themselves from the proposal. The APC dismissed the plan as “dead on arrival,” confident of retaining power.
