The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has withheld the results of 167,486 candidates, representing 8.59 per cent of those who sat the 2026 Computer-Based WASSCE for School candidates, over alleged examination malpractice, according to reports from PUNCH.
The figure declined from 9.7 per cent recorded in 2025. WAEC National Office head Dr Amos Dangut cited increasing use of mobile phones in examination halls and organized cheating in some schools as key infractions. Some supervisors and invigilators found assisting candidates have been arrested and will face disciplinary action.
