US Senator Ted Cruz has accused the Nigerian government of using public relations lobbying to mask the killing of Christians, expressing disappointment over Nigeria’s $9 million engagement of a US lobbying firm to communicate its actions on protecting Christians.

Cruz, who proposed the ‘Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act of 2025’, reiterated his stance in an X post, saying Nigerian officials have “created an environment that facilitates mass violence against Christians.” He was reacting to a US House amendment bill that would increase withholding of assistance to Nigeria from 50% to 100%. Meanwhile, former APC spokesman Timi Frank alleged the Presidency is deceiving Nigerians over Trump’s letter.
