Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television on Thursday July 2nd 2026, Flformer Labour Party presidential campaign spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo has dismissed speculation that his decision to work with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was motivated by personal financial interests, insisting that he was drawn instead by what he described as Atiku’s vision for Nigeria.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Okonkwo rejected rumours that he sought financial assistance after leaving Peter Obi’s camp, saying he had been financially independent for decades.

“In 1994, in Lagos, I packed into my own duplex, which as a young man of twenty I rented myself at 5 CBA Street, Lagos. I lived there for fourteen years.
