Finally Nigerian Senate Approves ₦403.1bn Police Trust Fund budgets to Strengthen Security

The Senate has approved a total of ₦403.1 billion for the Nigerian Police Trust Fund to strengthen policing and support the fight against terrorism, kidnapping, and other security challenges across the country for two consecutive years.

The upper chamber approved ₦170.1 billion for the 2025 fiscal year and ₦233 billion for the 2026 fiscal year. The 2026 budget covers personnel costs, capital projects, and overhead expenditures aimed at enhancing the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has transmitted a legislative proposal to the Senate seeking to reform the criminal justice system through the repeal and reenactment of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).
