Ahead 2027: Political Parties race to Upload Candidates as INEC nomination deadline ends July 11

Political parties are intensifying efforts to upload the names, personal particulars, and other required information for their nominated presidential and federal legislative candidates ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline on Saturday, July 11, according to Tribune Online.

INEC’s revised timetable requires parties to submit nominations for Presidential and National Assembly candidates from June 27 to July 11. Candidates have been besieging party headquarters to ensure their particulars are uploaded due to fears of replacement.

INEC National Commissioner Mohammed Kudu Haruna said the commission will compare submissions with reports of its monitors across the country and will only accept results that tally with monitored primaries.

The Labour Party has uploaded “90%” of its candidates, while the PDP has achieved “100% compliance” with the deadline.

The nomination portal closes at 6 pm on Saturday, July 11. INEC will publish the personal particulars of presidential and National Assembly candidates on August 1. Governorship and State Assembly candidates will be uploaded between July 18 and August 8, with their particulars published on August 29. The 2027 elections are scheduled for January 16 (presidential) and February 6 (governorship).
