ADC Raises Alarm, El-Rufai’s Detention Part of Strategy to Weaken Opposition Ahead of 2027 Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged that the Federal Government is deliberately keeping former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai in detention to weaken the opposition ahead of the 2027 general election, according to P.M. News.

ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi said the party supports prosecuting genuine criminal cases but argued that the conditions for El-Rufai’s bail are “almost impossible” to meet, suggesting the government intends “to hold this person in perpetuity.” He claimed: “The thinking within the ADC is that the APC government has concluded that they will not release Malam Nasir El-Rufai until after the elections.”

He said El-Rufai’s health has worsened and warned that “if anything happens to Malam Nasir El-Rufai in detention, President Bola Tinubu will be held personally responsible.”
