Some passengers abducted along the Itobe-Ajegwu-Anyigba road in Ofu LGA of Kogi State have escaped after their captors dozed off in a forest. The bandits had attacked two buses filled with passengers and also abducted a motorcycle rider.
One suspect, Monday Agi, was arrested after losing his way due to security pressure. Three escapees, Michael Adejo, Monday, and Mariam Yakubu, said they crawled away when the hoodlums (about 10 men armed with AK‑47 and pump‑action rifles) fell asleep.
Key Points:
Vigilantes and hunters trailed the kidnappers but were initially unsuccessful; a suspect was later caught by chance.
Escapees crawling away while guards slept shows a rare but possible survival tactic in captivity.
The attack involved two buses and a motorcycle rider, indicating a pattern of highway ambushes in Kogi.
One bus (Ebonyi NKE 737 XA) is mentioned, but authorities have not confirmed the number of remaining victims.
Police have not yet responded to requests for comment, leaving families in uncertainty.
Security forces are intensifying the manhunt for the remaining bandits. Passengers are advised to avoid night travel on the Itobe‑Anyigba route until normalcy is restored.
